Enclosure No. 2.

Extract from the Canton Gazette dated 3rd January 1929:

People Urge

Resumption of

Kwangchowwan.

Since General Chan Ming-shu assumed his post

as Chairman of the Provincial Government, many petitions

have been submitted to him by the people in Kochow, Juichow, and the neighbouring districts, urging that steps be taken

by the Government for the resumption of Kwangchowwan.

has

General Chan/also paid attention to this matter, and is believed to be devoting considerable time to the problem.

Kwangchouwan lies on the southern Coast of Kwangtung and since it was ceded to France in the year 1899

the people in Kochow and Iui chow and the neighbouring

districts have suffered considerable losses in their trade,

hence their suggestion for its retrocession to the Chinese

Government, so as to avoid further losses.
